Parinirvana Festival Day

25 February from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

There are key moments in the Buddha’s life which are celebrated and marked throughout the Buddhist world, such as the birth of the Buddha, his Enlightenment, his first teaching and the passing away of his body.
Parinirvana Day is when we mark and celebrate the Buddha’s passing away. The Buddha in his usual fashion was reticent to give a response at first, but when asked a third time he replied – did one really understand one’s own mind day to day, let alone comprehend the mind of a Buddha, so what could be said about the mind of a Buddha once the body has passed away?We also bring to mind friends, family and loved ones who have passed away in the last year. You are invited to bring a photograph to place on the shrine for the day.

This is the outline of the day:

9.30 am Prostration Practice – for Order Members and GFR Mitras who are familiar with the practice.

10.15 am Breakfast

11 am Shrine Room – meditation, talks and readings

1 pm – 2.15 pm Lunch – jacket potatoes provided

2.15 pm – 4.30 pm Shrine Room – puja
