This extraordinary man, born in India as a Mahar and therefore considered ‘Untouchable,’ was a contemporary of Gandhi. Although he is much less well known, his legacy has been arguably every bit as great as Gandhi’s or even greater; as current Triratna Buddhists will readily testify. If issues of addressing inequality are of concern to you, there is a huge amount to be learnt from Dr. Ambedkar’s unstinting dedication to the uplift and welfare of oppressed communities.
