OPEN DAY – Exploring Buddhism, Meditation and the Arts

This years Open Day is on Saturday 11th May, 2019 – As usual it will be part of Brighton Fringe Festival

The Brighton Buddhist Centre Open Day is a great opportunity to explore Buddhism and meditation in the heart of Brighton. The day will be characterised by a warm and open atmosphere allowing people to explore the activities of the day at their leisure. As part of the open day there will be various talks on Buddhism and also guided meditations. There will also be a chance to explore Buddhism’s relationship to the arts with music, poetry and much more.

The day will start at 10:30 and end at 18:00. Lunch will be at 13:00 – 14:00. This is a FREE EVENT!

All events are 45 minutes long.

10.30am – Doors open

11am ‘What is the Brighton Buddhist Centre?’ With Subhadassi

A welcome to the Brighton Buddhist Centre followed by a short talk on who we are and what we do.


12noon ‘What is Meditation?’ With Dyotana

A short talk on Meditation followed by a guided meditation.

Or ‘Exploring Yoga’ with Tabitha



Lunch/break (some light refreshments be provided but if you want to leave for lunch and come back that is fine.

Or ‘Exploring Tai Chi’ with Dharmakara



What is Buddhism? With Dharmajit and Sally

A short talk called the ‘the message of the Buddha’ followed by storytelling from the Buddhist tradition.

Or Exploring ‘Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy’ With Kavyshri

Or ‘Exploring Yoga’ with Natalie



‘The Breath’ with Maitridarshin

An Introduction to the ‘Mindfulness of Breathing’ practice  – a meditation that helps to calm, concentrate and still the mind – benefitting our daily life.  With guided meditation.

Or ‘Buddhism and the word’ – with Subhadassi

A workshop exploring haiku poetry – a Japanese short form that tries to capture a single moment in our lives in just three lines.



‘The Heart’ with Subhadassi

An introduction to the ‘Metta Bhavana’ practice – a meditation that helps develop loving kindness, positive emotion and compassion.  With guided meditation.



‘Together’ with Dharmajit

Finishing the open day by putting the various events of the Open Day together. A session of guided meditation, poetry, storytelling and mantra.  (This session is 1hr long).
